My Experience

After changing and putting my clothes into a locker, I was called into a room. They put some goo on my breast and started the sonogram. The last time I had this procedure was to see my baby. This was much less interesting. The only thing that came up on the TV screen was gray/white images — until a black space was found. The technician spent a lot of time on this and then called the doctor in to check it out; she said bringing in a doctor to look was just part of normal procedure. The doctor came in with my mammogram and started looking for the black area. She said “no” quietly a few times and then told me that she thought I had a fibroid tumor — not a big deal, but requiring a biopsy – just in case.

There was no need to recover. But I was a little concerned about the upcoming biopsy and the possibility that I might have cancer — something that I always worry about anyway – “Do I have the gene?” My father died of breast cancer 10 years ago.

My Advice

This was not a big deal. Just be calm.
