My Experience

I was in the ER and had just been diagnosed with meningitis. The doctors ordered a CT scan on my head to better evaluate what was contributing to my headaches and vomiting. I was wheeled into the CT room, which was chilly and had a large X-ray machine that looked like a donut with a table sticking out. I was helped from the gurney onto the table, asked to lie on my back and told to keep my head very still.

The person performing the test left the room. After about two minutes, the machine started up and the table moved me back and forth into the donut. The machine whirled and after about one minute stopped. The person returned and I was finished with the first CT scan and ready for another one using iodine as a contrasting agent.

My Advice

Lay still, breath deeply and slowly to relax your body and help your mind stay calm and your body still.
