My Experience

This story has been doctor reviews

It was time for a check up, which included a colonoscopy. The doctor sent an instruction sheet and a prescription for the necessary preparation.

I arrived at the doctor’s office, filled out forms for the medical insurance and was then brought to an examination room where I was told to undress and put on a gown. An anesthesiologist then came to talk with me about the anesthesia for the procedure and I had to sign a consent form. He asked about my experience with anesthesia and explained how he would administer the anesthesia and what I would experience. The doctor then came to speak with me and explained how this procedure had changed since the last time I was seen by him 10 years ago.

Right after the procedure, which I did not remember, I felt woozy but fine and after about 30 minutes I was told I could dress and go home with my husband who had come to take me home. One must have a family member or friend come to take you home after this procedure. I was absolutely fine afterwards, and relieved that it was over and that all was well.

My Advice

Just do it. The prep is not fun, but the procedure is no problem. And the prep is getting less awful as I compared it to 10 years ago. There are different forms of prep, as I heard from friends, and some seem much easier. It would have been helpful to have looked at the various options and the pros and cons.
