My Experience

I checked in one hour before the procedure was scheduled. I waited 5-10 minutes. I then met with a nurse who inserted a catheter for an IV in my arm and took my blood pressure, weight, height and medical history. I then waited an hour in the waiting room in very uncomfortable chairs and with the distraction of a tiny television. I was taken into the procedure room and met with the doctor. Sensors were put on my chest for monitoring and on my finger for blood pressure monitoring. I was given a sedative and have no memory of the procedure. I next remember being in the recovery room. I rested and was given water. They gave me my clothes and told me to dress. I was given post-op instructions and my husband drove me home.

The entire procedure, from check-in to leaving, took three hours. The staff was very pleasant and courteous. I felt I was being taken care of by very competent and caring people. There was no discomfort in the procedure. The only unpleasant part was the prep, which included the drinking of magnesium citrate laxative.

My Advice

Ask for pills rather than liquid preparation. Ask for as much sedative as is safe. Follow the prep instructions carefully.
