Deep scaling is the removal of plague and tarter above and below the gum line. It is generally performed using a local anesthetic.

If you are less tense, you will have a better experience. If you think you may get tense during the procedure (and many people do), have a way to relax such as visualization, deep breathing, or listening to music on an iPod.
