My Experience
I had continual mucus running down my left nostril. The doctor tried to clear up this infection with medicine, but told me that it would probably require surgery. He was right, and we scheduled endoscopic sinus surgery to drain my chronically infected sinus.
I had to pre-register at the surgery building. On the day of the procedure, I walked into the hospital with no trepidation because the doctor came so highly recommended by one of his peers who I have been working with for ten years. One of the ancillary benefits of having a top-flight doctor or dentist is that they tend to recommend other outstanding doctors as referrals.
The procedure itself was uneventful. I left the hospital the same day after the procedure and noticed the difference the next day. The continual mucus flow through my left nostril stopped. I was back to “my old self.” The doctor saw me every two weeks, than monthly and now quarterly. Two things emerged that might be helpful: My doctor treated me as if my case were the only one he had (being in his waiting room proved this wasn’t the case, of course) and if you have a question you can e-mail him and count on a prompt response.
My Advice
Waiting to have it done is the hard part: The procedure itself and the aftercare were not difficult. Because of the positive outcome, I wondered why it took so long for me to see a doctor.
