In vitro fertilization, or IVF, is a process to aid fertilization by combining the egg and sperm outside the womb, or in vitro. If fertilization occurs, the fertilized egg is placed into the woman’s uterus. The steps involved in IVF include stimulating the development of eggs and collecting them outside the body, introducing sperm for fertilization and growth and transferring the fertilized egg into the uterus.
