My Experience

I had to have a diagnostic laparoscopy, during which a thin instrument called a laparoscope is inserted through small incisions in the abdomen. I arrived at the hospital and checked in, changed into a surgical gown/pants and waited for an hour or so. I was then prepped, given a warm blanket and an anesthetic, rolled into surgery and then put under. I woke up an hour or so later, threw up, drank some ginger ale, rested a bit, and then was discharged and was driven home.

The anesthesia made me sick, and I had dry mouth. I needed a lot of Motrin to ease the pain from the bruising on my stomach where the incisions were made. It took me about two days to feel better.

My Advice

Don’t try to drink too much water too soon after the surgery. Give yourself two days to feel better.
