My Experience

I went to the doctor because I was concerned about what looked like a blister on my chest that wouldn’t go away. He looked at it but wasn’t concerned. But then he saw a dark freckle he didn’t like the look of. He stuck me with a Novocain needle which did not hurt, just a fast prick, and then burned off the freckle. Again, there was no pain, just an unpleasant burning smell. He put the freckle in a vial for testing. He then put a band-aid on the small wound and told me to put hydrogen peroxide on it at home.

He told me to call the office in a week once the lab results were in. If it was nothing cancerous, we were finished. Otherwise, I would have to come in for a follow-up visit. A week later I called, the nurse looked up my file, paused, and said she had to get the doctor. I almost fainted. I thought I had a melanoma. The doctor came on and said I had a dysplastic nevus, which essentially is a mole on the body. He said it was most likely from sun damage, and was nothing to really worry about. But he did say it was important that I protect myself from the sun. He told me to use 30+ sun block. Two weeks after the doctor removed the nevus, the skin was almost completely healed.

My Advice

Use 30+ sun block.
