(Test for the flu)

Home > Procedures > Nasal / Nasopharyngeal (NP) Swab Test

A nasal, or nasopharyngeal (NP), swab test is used to test secretions in the nose for the presence of the flu. A cotton swab on a stick is inserted into a nostril until resistance is met, then rotated a number of times and taken out of the nose. The sample is then evaluated by a lab for the presence of substances linked to influenza.
