Preparation for Septoplasty:
“Find a surgeon who is highly recommended and makes you feel relaxed and confident.”
“Ask your healthcare provider any questions and keep asking a question — in different ways — until you understand the answer. Be an active participant in your health.”
“Have someone to help you for at least several days after the surgery.”
“Ask your doctor about aftercare, including irrigating your sinuses regularly after the procedure to help them heal.”
After Septoplasty:
“Report any pain or discomfort to the doctor or nurses. Do not hesitate to communicate.”
“Stay on top of your pain medication schedule; recovery can be painful, so it important to keep the pain managed.”
“If you have a difficult time tolerating some of the pain medications, talk with the pharmacists about ways to prevent an upset stomach. Also, have a way to contact your physician quickly in case it is necessary to try a different medication.”
“Don’t try to do too much at first and when you do start to walk around, don’t over do it because you will just set yourself back.”
“Clean your nose as much as you can because it does help.”
