About the rating

My doctor recommended a needle biopsy for my thyroid gland to check a suspicious area. He explained that the biopsy would help differentiate cancer from a benign mass.

The nurse brought in a sanitized needle, cotton balls and other medical instruments to prepare for the biopsy. My doctor came in and started: I felt a quick pinch through the throat and few seconds later the tissue was collected. It was very quick.

While it felt weird to have a needle at the throat, once the biopsy was over and the doctor put a band-aid over the area it didn’t feel bad at all. I went home afterwards. The next day I took off the band-aid. I didn’t have to do anything for the recovery.

My Advice

Do not stress over this procedure: it is very quick and not painful at all. The entire biopsy procedure probably lasts about a minute.
