- Inconvenience

I had hyperthyroidism (abnormally high level of thyroid hormone)secondary to a nodule on my thyroid gland. The doctor recommended removing the mass.
Before the day of surgery I had blood-work and an EKG. On the day of surgery I was supposed to be at the hospital at 8:30 am. I was waiting very patiently for my ride but he was late. Finally, he showed up and I ended up being right on time.
The nurses were wonderful. They took my health information and then I got undressed and went upstairs to the preop area. I spoke to my surgeon and anesthesiologist. I was then prepared for surgery.
The next thing I knew I was in the recovery room and my throat hurt so much. I was brought to my room. I had a very rough night, my head and throat hurt very bad. The next day I heard from the staff that I could go home that day. I honestly think when one lives alone you should be allowed to stay another night. Besides, it was snowing that day.
After the procedure I felt lousy. My head and throat hurt a lot. Coming home to be by yourself is not a good idea. I didn’t sleep for three nights. But I had to make up my mind to stop feeling sorry for myself and get going so I got back into the swing of things and felt a lot better.
My Advice
Don’t rush going home from the hospital, especially if you are alone.
