My Experience

My dental bridge fell out and my dentist recommended dental implants. The dentist examined my gums and made an impression of the gums before the procedure. Before starting, I was asked if I wanted to watch a DVD during the procedure. I was then given Novocain to eliminate any pain. The dentist used a dental laser to open up my gum in two locations next to each other. He then used a drill to tap a tapered thread into my jaw bone. He put in place two inserts by threading them into the bone using a small ratchet wrench and then sewed my gums up.

Afterwards, I felt OK. I was on an antibiotic for seven days and I took ibuprofen for the first day to relieve the discomfort.

My Advice

Do not stress: The procedure is not as bad as it sounds.
