My Experience
An infection formed in my back bottom wisdom teeth.
Because of the infection, I was required to take antibiotics for about seven days before the surgery. This also helped to loosen up my stiff jaw; upon my first visit to the dentist, I could not even open my mouth because of the stiffness.
On the day of the procedure, I got to the doctor’s office very early in the morning and was taken right to the back. I lay in a chair and because two of the wisdom teeth being removed were fully impacted and the other two were partially impacted, I was put under full anesthesia. When I woke up, my jaw was a bit sore and quite puffy but it was not nearly as bad as I had originally expected.
I felt a bit woozy right after I woke up. I kept ice on my cheeks for the entire first day. I was required to clean out the holes in the back of my mouth with a squirt bottle of diluted medicated mouth wash. I had to do this every hour or if I ate, after each time I finished eating.
The swelling decreased by the next day. I was still a bit puffy for about three days but nothing too serious. I kept ice on it, which seemed to really help.
My Advice
Just relax. Be sure to take any medicine that the doctor prescribes for you and be careful with what you eat the first few days. I was a bit ambitious and tried eating solid foods too soon. Make sure you wash out your mouth as much as you can because let me tell you, infections in your mouth hurt!!
