About the rating

My teeth were bothering me and I went to see my dentist. He examined my teeth and recommended that I have my wisdom teeth extracted. I resisted at first but then I decided that it was the right course of action.

There was no preparation; I just showed up at the dental surgeon’s office. As soon as I got there, I was politely ushered into the office. They took X-rays of my teeth to be 100 percent sure of what needed to get done, which was to pull out two of my wisdom teeth. Once everything checked out, I got some numbing medicine and we were ready to go.

The oral surgeon was excellent; he explained exactly what he was going to do before he did it. For instance, before he gave me the injection, he told me how it would feel and how I would feel after the injection. Also, before he extracted my teeth, he told me that I would feel some pressure. I get easily scared about these types of things and I have a very low threshold for pain. So the doctor’s specific explanations really helped me feel at ease and not feel I would be caught off guard with any sudden activities. He was an excellent communicator and made me feel very at ease.

I felt like the actual extraction took about 10 minutes. Right after it was all over they brought me into a room where I could relax. I laid down in the private room on a little bed for a while to recover. I appreciated this part of the whole experience.

Afterwards, I took antibiotics on a daily basis and took some painkillers. Even though I have a low threshold for pain, I didn’t take the full set of painkillers they gave me because I didn’t need it. I would say the pain I had was very dull and frankly, annoying. The pain wasn’t sharp but I had a hard time eating. So, for about 2 – 3 days, I couldn’t eat too much food that I like to eat but it was, by and large, not too painful.

My Advice

Find the right dentist or oral surgeon who really cares and will take the time to make sure that you feel at ease; this is very important. Also, you may want to figure out how many wisdom teeth you want to pull out at any given time. The oral surgeon I had went through the pros and cons of pulling out both teeth at the same time versus one at a time. The fact that both of my wisdom teeth were on one side made the difference for me.
